Joey Veerman Rangers transfer boost as Heerenveen midfielder opens up on PSV Davy Propper 'bummer'

Rangers have been given a transfer boost after target Joey Veerman admitted a move abroad is now his most likely option.

The Heerenveen midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox but was understood to be keen on a move to PSV.

However, the Dutch giants re-signed midfielder Davy Propper from English Premier League outfit Brighton this week.

Veerman has expressed his disappointment at the transfer and has now seemingly ruled out playing in the Eredivise next season.

That should put Rangers on transfer alert although he still has three years left on his contract so a fee would be required to get their man.

Steven Gerrard is on the lookout for a midfielder for the Gers' Premiership title defence and Champions League campaign, but is likely to face competition for Veerman

But the player hasn’t exactly hidden his disappointment at not landing a switch to Eindhoven and could push for a move in the coming weeks.

He told ESPN: "Ajax has a lot of good midfielders, PSV just chose someone else. I happened to be on the beach with him (Pröpper, ed.) Not together , but he was also on that beach in Ibiza. Then we heard that afternoon that news. That's a bit of a bummer, but you can't do anything about it.

"Suppose he hadn't made it, then you don't know whether they would have got me just as well. Then you think about it, sh*t , but nothing else.

"As it looks now, I'm still at Heerenveen and I'm doing my best and nothing else is going on there.

"It's just what kind of club comes along. I think it will be very difficult in the Netherlands, so there's only one thing to do."

Heerenveen boss Johnny Jansen says there have been no offers made for Veerman as yet.

He added: "It is also true that clubs may be a bit shocked by the price that may have to be paid. I think they once said about the ten million or so. But whether that is madness or not, I don't know either. But that can scare people."
