Joe Swash 'pokes' baby Rex to make sure he's breathing

Joe Swash has admitted he “pokes” his newborn son to check everything is alright because he is a massive worrier.

The concerned new dad welcomed Rex, with partner Stacey Solomon last month, who he said gets abboyed when he keeos checking on their son minutes after she has put him to sleep.

Speaking on Loose Women in his first TV interview since becoming a father again he said: “Oh yeah [I worry]. If the baby doesn’t breathe for about five seconds, I poke it. Not a hard poke…

“Stacey goes mad [and says] ‘Will you stop poking the baby? I just fed it, let it sleep.’

“He is beautiful. He is so resilient. I think it is us parents that feel more vulnerable than the children.”

Swash also opened up about the quick birth, joking he acted like a “wicket keeper” because “it all happened so fast”.

“You [usually] have a little bit of a build up before the big pains come but Stacey’s just came straight away. She is such a warrior, she was amazing,” he said.

“It was the weirdest morning of my life. Gemma [her sister] was like, ‘I am gonna put the gloves on to help with the birth’ and she turned round and it was like a slip and slide. We nearly had to catch it.”

Swash is already dad to Harry, 11, from a previous relationship. Solomon also has two sons, 11-year-old Zachary and Leighton, seven.

Praising his blended family, Swash said: “It’s an amazing time for us all. Little Rex is such an amazing anchor for our family. He is our connection and he relates us all together.

“[Leighton and Zach] are brilliant with him. Stacey is amazing.”

Loose Women airs daily at 12.30pm on ITV
