Joe Montemurro delivers his verdict on Arsenal Women's Champions League exit to PSG

A disappointed Joe Montemurro put his Arsenal side's defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Women's Champions league quarter-final down to two mistakes - but promised they would use it as motivation in the season to come.

"We made two errors – we got exposed," he told a virtual press conference after the match.

The Australian admitted that his side suffered from a lack of match practice, having not played competitively as a team since February, but refused to use it as an excuse.

"The more big games you play, the more you’re used to them –we haven’t had any," he said.

"We made the best of the situation and so be it. I’m still proud of the players, the planning, the preparation, the ability to give it everything they could under the circumstances."

He confirmed that England international Jordan Nobbs starting from the bench was a tactical decision in order to give the side more width, and had words of praise for new signing Noelle Maritz, saying: "We’re proud to have her at Arsenal."

And he added that he thought the players would learn from the loss as they continue their preparation for the new Women's Super League season, which begins in September.

"This, I think, will stick in the memories for the players," he concluded. "The motivation is there and I saw some very positive signs tonight."
