Joe Maddon, Chris Bosio decline to counter-punch Brett Anderson's tweet

PITTSBURGH _ Cubs manager Joe Maddon seemed amused to learn that left-hander Brett Anderson took a veiled shot at the organization on Twitter.

"That's why I love Twitter so much," Maddon quipped Monday after learning of Anderson's comments.

Anderson, who was released two months ago by the Cubs after a 2-2 start and 8.18 ERA in six starts followed by back issues, expressed his feelings after embarking on an 0-1 record and 3.09 ERA after only two starts with the Toronto Blue Jays.

"It's crazy what happens when you're not tinkered with and can just go out and pitch," Anderson tweeted.

Maddon responded: "When a guy is going to say something like that, he's had a tough year. God bless him. I hope he comes back.

"I hope he wins 20 games next year. I mean that sincerely. But when a player has a tough year, it's on the player."

Bosio said he was unaware of Anderson's tweet until surrounded by reporters toward the end of batting practice.

"I'm happy he's healthy and he's pitching," Bosio said. "I'll just leave it at that."

When asked if he wanted to see the actual tweet, Bosio replied, "I don't care."
