Joe Lycett to host live Christmas house party on Channel 4

Joe Lycett will host a big queer Christmas house party live from his hometown next month.

The 90-minute festive spectacular will see the comedian celebrate the return of Christmas.

Live Joe Lycett: Mummy’s Big Christmas Do! will air live on Channel 4 - a confirmed air date for the TV special is yet to be announced.

The live show will celebrate all things queer, with plenty of special guests, musical performances and stand-up comedy, all live from Birmingham.

The specially invited audience will be the real stars of the show – made up of LGBTQ+ icons, allies of the LGBTQ+ community, and local heroes in addition to some people who may well be in for some devilish surprises from Joe.

Viewers have been told to expect a lot of laughs, as the show will, of course, feature plenty of festive mayhem.

Speaking in a Channel 4 statement Joe, who is also a consumer warrior, explained how the show "combines three of my favourite things - LGBTQ+ culture, Birmingham and chaotic live television".

He added: "Queer creativity outside of London is the most exciting it has been in years and I can’t wait to introduce Channel 4 viewers to our colourful and anarchic world, with some silliness and a few laughs thrown in."

The comedian also revealed how there would be an opportunity for the public to be a part of the show.

Joe posted the announcement on his Twitter, which read: "We want the audience to be populated with amazing talents, astonishing outfits and brilliant stories from the queer community in Birmingham and beyond.

"Can you strut your stuff on a catwalk? Do you have an insane coming out story? Fancy doing your impress party trick live on TV? I want to know!"
