Danica Patrick's U-turn from Bears fan to Packers fan is almost understandable. Almost.
She is, after all, dating Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. And Patrick was born in Beloit and grew up near the Illinois side of the border where allegiances are mixed.
But for the retired race car driver to unashamedly say, "I'm the biggest Packers fan," on national TV... that was giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
In other words, it was an act of sports treason.
In May, Autoweek referred to Patrick as "a proud fan of the Chicago Bears." The story said that when Patrick's father T.J. first met Rodgers, he wanted to don a Brian Urlacher jersey and sack the longtime Bears nemesis.
"I'm still a Bears fan," T.J. told Autoweek. "I can't be a Packers fan. Danica is still a Bears fan, but that doesn't mean she can't be an Aaron Rodgers fan."
No, T.J., it means exactly that.
Danica's defection puts her in the dubious company of other famous "fans" who crossed enemy lines, a partial list of which is below:
