Some experts might think Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon finishes outside the top 10 in 2020 — but they sure like rookie quarterback Joe Burrow.
Burrow, flanked by some big-name weapons, could indeed put up some big numbers as a rookie.
Experts on the ESPN fantasy staff agree. Two picked Burrow as a QB sleeper (he’ll outplay his ADP) and Eric Karabell picked him as his outright breakout:
Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals: Rookie quarterbacks are generally far too risky to depend on, especially with so much depth at the position, but Burrow is hardly a normal rookie. His Heisman Trophy-winning numbers at LSU were historic and ridiculous, and the Bengals have surrounded him with ample talent at running back and wide receiver, and perhaps — fingers crossed — a competent offensive line. Burrow is so talented, he would make it work anyway. Stop wasting time on Kirk Cousins or Jared Goff types as your No. 2 QB; Burrow’s fantasy upside is far more immense. — Eric Karabell
Burrow has a fun mixture of things going for him that make him so intriguing as a fantasy option. The line from last year should be improved, he’s a rare prospect as it is and his cast of weapons is better than most No. 1 picks usually get to play with.
Granted, this doesn’t mean rush out and make Burrow the first quarterback off the board by any means. He’s still going to have the usual rookie highs and lows, especially thanks to an odd offseason and season.
But Burrow as a roster stash that will exceed expectations and potentially win games off the bench? Experts would agree — count on it.
