Jockey Aidan Coleman expects to be on the sidelines until October with broken arm

Aidan Coleman expects to be on the sidelines until the autumn through injury.

The leading rider suffered a broken arm in a fall at Southwell on July 30.

Coleman was racing into contention on the JP McManus-owned Dieg Man when they parted company at the penultimate obstacle in the Visit attheraces.com Handicap Chase.

The seven-year-old's blunder gave him no chance of staying in the saddle and he hit the ground heavily.

Coleman confirmed a scan found he had fractured one of his arms and he now faces a lengthy spell of recovery.

“Unfortunately, I fractured my humerus at Southwell last week after a fall," he said.

“I’ve had plenty of contact with BHA doctor Jerry Hill and my specialist Geoff Graham, who have both been amazing, and after my scan they have told me to expect a 10- to 12-week break before I can go back racing.

“It’s obviously not ideal with the season starting off so well with some good early momentum following the coronavirus lockdown, but injuries are part of the job and every jockey has been there before.

He added on his website aidan-coleman.com: “I’m looking forward to getting to Oaksey House in Lambourn as soon as possible to start my rehabilitation and I’m then looking forward to returning in October.”

Coleman had five winners on the board since the jump racing restart and will team up with his 2019 Stayers' Hurdle hero Paisley Park for the new National Hunt season.

Although Emma Lavelle's charge failed to retain his crown at this year's Cheltenham Festival, Coleman still enjoyed success at the big meeting on surprise Arkle heroine Put The Kettle On.

He was also aboard subsequent Champion Hurdle winner Epatante on seasonal debut, when she took a Listed handicap hurdle at Newbury.
