A remarkable tech recruitment boom saw the number of IT jobs advertised in London more than double last year to a record high, according to a new survey.

Across England and Wales tech firms listed 12,800 IT vacancies in 2021 with almost half of them in the capital, reveals the research from recruitment consultancy Robert Walters and data firm Vacancysoft.

The biggest single recruiter in the UK was investment bank JP Morgan, which has its European headquarters in Canary Wharf.

It advertised for some 2,666 tech professionals last year, up 107 per cent on 2020.

It was followed by broadcaster Sky, which has its main UK campus in Isleworth.

It advertised for some 2,171 jobs, up 138 per cent. Other major recruiters included software consultants Version1, retail giant Amazon and Nationwide.

The surge consolidates London’s status as Europe’s leading tech city, accounting for 47.6 per cent of the new jobs, a 3.1 per cent increase in its share.

Investors pumped £29.4 billion into UK tech firms last year, says the report, a third of the European total, with around £20 billion focused on London and the South-East.
