Job centre staff assaulted by 'aggressive' man

Job centre staff and police officers were allegedly assaulted by an 'aggressive' man who lashed out in Warrington town centre yesterday.

Police were called out to the Job Centre on Mersey Street, Warrington town centre, after receiving reports of a man “being aggressive towards staff”.

The alleged attack is said to have happened on Monday, November 2 just before midday.

Security staff detained a 50-year-old man following the alleged assault and kept him at the scene until police officers attended.

The man was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage.

Warrington Police posted on Twitter: "Just before midday yesterday, a male was arrested in the town centre following an allegation of assault on staff at the job centre.

"[He was] also alleged to have assaulted officers upon his arrival in custody."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 11.40am on Monday, November 2, police were called to reports of a man being aggressive towards staff at the Job Centre on Mersey Street, Warrington.

“Officers attended the scene and a 50-year-old local man had been detained by security staff.

“The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage; he is currently being held in police custody where he is assisting officers with their enquiries.”
