Joan Rivers' estate sells her wigs and dog's X-rays

Joan Rivers died in September 2014

Joan Rivers' estate has sold off her wigs and her dog's X-rays at an auction in California.

Fans of the comedienne - who died in September 2014, aged 81 - snapped up the two X-rays of her beloved Yorkshire Terrier Spike's thorax, which went under the hammer for $576, at the sale presented by Julien’s Auctions at The Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on October 9.

The X-rays and the envelopes were dated "April 12, 1993", and it was named "Spike Rosenberg" - the surname being that of Joan's late husband, Edgar Rosenberg - and "Thorax".

Two shag wigs, which she donned during her 2008 one-woman show, A Work in Progress by a Life in Progress, fetched $5,760 and $2,880, respectively.

More than 300 other lots were a part of the auction - billed as the first sale of Joan's personal and professional possessions, of which she cherished most.

Asked why hundreds of items were up for grabs 11 years after her death, Joan's 57-year-old daughter, Melissa Rivers, told People: "The timing felt right. I'm finally emotionally ready to let go."

As well as Spike's X-rays, a framed photo of the pooch sporting a crown, the dog's collar and ID tags, a OnePass Elite ’92 credit card holding the name "Spike Rivers," a button saying "I Like Spike," and a copy of the May 26, 1986, issue of People magazine, which featured with Rivers and Spike on the cover, sold for $1,920.

Meanwhile, two voodoo dolls went under the hammer for $448, and a china mug that commemorated the 1986 wedding of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, both 65, was auctioned for $384.

And china mugs that marked the late Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977, as well as the late Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's 80th birthday in 1980, fetched $512.
