JLo's Next Project: A $20 Million Unconventional Musical-Documentary About Her Love Story with Ben Affleck

Jennifer Lopez is preparing to launch a new album, music video and documentary that reflects on her career and her two-decade-long romance with actor Ben Affleck, a project she felt so confident in that she had financed herself. The Bronx Diva has invested $20 million of her own money into it.

This musical film premieres on Feb. 16, the album will be released on the same day and the documentary is set to follow suit on Feb. 27.

"Everybody thought I was crazy, and by the way, I thought I was crazy," the Latina artist said in a recent interview with Variety about this enterprise.

Different artists were invited to be a part of the project. Some, like Khloé Kardashian refused, while others did but with some concerns. According to Variety, Jane Fonda, who is a good friend of Lopez and her co-star in the 2005 movie Monster-in-Law, was about to say no. A conversation that appears in the behind-the-scenes documentary shows some of the questions the 86-year-old performer had when she received the offer to be part of it.

"I want you to know that I don't entirely know why, but I feel invested in you and Ben, and I really want this to work," Fonda says in the documentary, according to the media outlet. "However, this is absurd. It feels too much like you're trying to prove something instead of just living it. You know, every other photograph is the two of you kissing and hugging." Lopez laughs and says, "That's just us living our life."

Jennifer López and Ben Affleck were engaged in 2003 but called off the wedding amid what the singer of 'Jenny from the block' described as an experience that left both of them with 'post-traumatic stress' due to the media exposure that the 'Bennifer' phenomenon had at the time. Almost two decades later, they married in the summer of 2022.

JLo is in the middle of promoting the album and its accompanying film, both titled "This Is Me ... Now." This title is a nod to her album "This Is Me... Then," released two decades ago during her romance with Ben Affleck, which ultimately ended.

Using the single 'Can't Get Enough' as a lead-in, the album is aimed to provide this Puerto Rican-descended superstar with a chance to narrate her story in her own terms.

The project will be launched as well with a musical film, called "This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story", which neither the 54-years-old performer nor her agents want to call it a long music video, according to Variety.
