Jim Goodwin can right Aberdeen wrong at Dundee United as incoming boss looks to overcome away day anguish

Jim Goodwin must improve on a lot of the wrongdoings he oversaw at Aberdeen this season if he is to join Dundee United - none more so than his and the Tangerines' torrid away record.

As reported by Record Sport earlier today, it is understood that Goodwin is in the driving seat to take to the Tannadice dugout following the departure of Liam Fox last week, having been unable to lift the Tangerines from the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.

It would represent a drastic yet quick turnaround for the Irishman, who having previously been billed as one of the top up-and-coming managers at St Mirren last season, now has to repair the damage of his dwindling image that came crumbling down at Pittodrie. But with a lot of work to do should he take his place on the Tannadice throne, Goodwin will know that one key aspect he failed with at Aberdeen is his away record - with United's being equally as poor.

Despite boasting arguably one of the best squads in the league with Aberdeen, Goodwin only took a measly seven points from a possible 30 on his travels - including just eight goals scored and 27 conceded. He missed the shambolic 4-0 defeat to Dundee United as part of his ban for calling Ryan Porteous a 'cheat', whilst he also missed the 2-1 defeat away to Livingston after his ban had been reduced to three games from an initial eight.

But regardless, seven points from 10 games is relegation form to say the least. With United also amassing just a measly seven points from 13 outings on the road, Goodwin will need to learn from this season's mistakes if he is to pick up the pieces on Tayside with what is seen as a worse playing squad.

Should Goodwin move to the Tangerines, he'll have the chance to make things right on the road with an away trip to Livingston, before Rangers entertain United three weeks later. However, he will look to capture home comforts against
