Jim Goodwin believes stunning Celtic Park win underlines St Mirren's top six credentials

Delighted Jim Goodwin insists St Mirren’s incredible 2-1 win at Celtic Park can be a springboard to staying in the top six.

The Buddies boss has made no secret of his desire to turn the Paisley side into a top half team this season.

After two impressive wins last week, which also included a 5-1 thrashing of Dundee United on the road, Goodwin believes his players are now starting to believe their lofty target is achievable.

“It’s our first win here in 31 years,” Goodwin told Express Sport.

“I came here for five years as a player with St Mirren and I don’t think I took a point. Now I’ve got all three so we’ll enjoy this one tonight.

“It’s difficult to get those types of performances every week. We’re a team that’s trying to build something so it’s never going to be perfect all the time.

"We’ll have ups and downs but the lads are buying into what we’re trying to do.

“And they’re now starting to believe that they’re capable of it, in terms of that top half finish. We’re there to be shot at it with bold statements like that.

"But I want us to be ambitious and for everyone to believe that we can do it.

“With performances like that, you can see it’s possible.”
