Jim Carrey's 90s living room channels classic country style – and experts say the nostalgic look is trending for 2025

As exhaustion with the accelerated trend cycle mounts, we turn to spaces from the past for inspiration. Perhaps no decade has had a bigger resurgence than the 90s, and an archival image of Jim Carrey's living room from the era epitomizes the reasons why.

His cozy and welcoming space includes many of the '90s design trends we are once again coveting. Jim's living room features a brick fireplace and an intricate wood side table topped with a chrome vase. A patterned sofa and plush beige rug ground the look.

Understandably, the warmth of this classic country look is especially appealing right now. Lena Gierasinska, design expert at Barker and Stonehouse, explains the interior design trend, stating: 'Classic country style has risen in popularity as people strive to create a home that feels lived-in, comforting and inviting. A dose of nostalgia delivers this with its characteristic coziness and warmth – think classic materials and rich brown hues.'

Luckily, Carrey's cozy living room idea is easy to recreate with careful attention to detail and contrast.

Lena advises: 'Marry opposites together in a harmonious way - pair vintage items with modern ones, or clash bright colours with striking patterned prints. Equally, don’t be afraid to mix colours and textures with eye-catching patterns or finishing touches such as ornate feathers and metallic accents – perfect for styling a look that is brimming with character.'

She continues: 'Wooden panelling painted in a warm neutral hue is another great way to make classic style feel fresh. Pattern is fundamental to classic country style, but using it on a smaller scale feels more modern – think a floral cushion or armchair, rather than pattern drenching the space. The key is to layer textures and timeless details for a cozy yet contemporary take on country style.'

As 90s nostalgia peaks, looking back at spaces that are actually from the 90s is a great way to understand what is so appealing about the decade. These rooms are infinitely inspiring.
