Jewel raiders rob delivery driver in Liverpool city centre heist

A delivery driver was attacked and robbed after picking up a package of jewellery from Cavern Walks in Liverpool city centre.

The worker picked up the item from a store in the shopping centre, on Harrington Street, at around 4.50pm, on Monday, March 28. As he walked near Doran's Lane he was attacked and robbed for the package.

The suspect, who was unknown to the victim, then ran into a van which was waiting nearby, close to the Hard Day's Night Hotel. The van, which was driven by another man, then drove off.

Police say the delivery driver suffered minor injuries during the assault. The van driver was reported to be wearing a hard hat and face covering. The robber is described as a white male, around 5ft, 8in tall, and of stocky build.

At the time of the incident he was also wearing a high visibility jacket, hard hat, grey jacket, grey trousers and a face covering. CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out into the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: "To target someone in this way while they are carrying out their daily business in the community is utterly despicable and we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice. The area around Harrington Street, North John Street and the Hard Day’s Night hotel would have been very busy yesterday afternoon. If you were in the area and saw anything or anyone suspicious then please get in touch.

"It was also reported that two passers-by also spoke to the victim to check he was ok following the incident, who may have seen something. If this was you then please contact us, as information you hold could be vital to our enquiries. Similarly, if you were driving in the area around North John Street and have dashcam footage then please review it and let us know if you see anything. Whether you contact us directly, or anonymously through Crimestoppers, all information will be acted upon."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information can contact police by DM viasocial media on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with reference 22000214661.
