The Newcastle Jets have recorded two further COVID-19 cases, with the men and women's squad stood down from training until all players and staff test have been returned.
Midfielder Angus Thurgate tested positive on Tuesday, reserve goalkeeper Noah James, a housemate of Thurgate's, has also returned a positive finding.
The club's A-League Women's team has also been impacted.
It's understood that defender Kirsty Fenton tested positive after the entire women's team were ordered to undergo COVID-19 testing following Thurgate complaining of symptoms on Monday.
The Jets have yet to confirm the identity of any of the COVID-positive players. However, it's understood that every player at the club is fully vaccinated.
Newcastle are now awaiting guidance from the Australian Professional Leagues and NSW Health as to whether players can return to training and whether this weekend's games for the two sides will be allowed to proceed.
The club is yet to receive test results from every player in both squads.
The women's side, who last trained on Monday, face a more pressing issue given they are due to play on Friday against Western Sydney Wanderers.
The men's team are expected to travel to Campbelltown on Sunday afternoon to face Macarthur FC.
The Australian Professional Leagues were contacted for comment over the protocols for both men's and women's fixtures, but did not respond.
On Wednesday, Hunter New England Health confirmed there were 827 active cases in the region.
