Adam Gase’s coaching staff is filled with energetic, high-intensity assistants that bring it every single day. On Thursday, wide receivers coach Shawn Jefferson took his enthusiasm to a new level when discussing quarterback Sam Darnold.
Jefferson, who followed Gase from Miami to New York, has been impressed with Darnold throughout the offseason. The former NFL veteran knows a good quarterback when he sees one and Darnold has Jefferson excited to see what he can accomplish this upcoming season and beyond.
Jefferson spent last season watching Darnold work from the opposite sideline. Now, he gets the chance to see what the second-year signal caller can do every day in practice. Considering the Dolphins’ quarterback room featured some underwhelming passers in Jefferson’s tenure with the team, it’s easy to understand why he is excited to be around Darnold.
Darnold’s accurate passes mean more opportunities for Jefferson’s wideouts. With Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa and Jamison Crowder in the mix, Jefferson has a talented group on his hands. He also as a quarterback who can get them the ball, which puts Jefferson’s receivers in a position to have a big 2019 season.
