Jet2 suspends Scots holidays to the Canary Islands due to 'government travel guidance'

Jet2 has suspended holidays and flights to the Canary Islands as Spain remains on Scotland’s quarantine list.

Services to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuereventura and Lanzarote will be cancelled up to and including September 26.

The budget airline cited the current Government travel advice.

Scots are advised against all but essential travel to Spain amid a significant rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

Anyone arriving back in Scotland from Spain will have to self-isolate for 14 days under the Scottish Government’s rules.

All Jet2 customers impacted by the cancellations will now be contacted to discuss their options off the back of this decision.

Passengers will be given the chance to rebook with no admin fee, get a refund credit note or a full cash refund.

The firm say they are continuing to monitor the situation closely.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: “Due to the current government travel advice, we have taken the decision to suspend flights and holidays to the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote) up to and including 26th September.

“Where customers are affected by any programme changes, we have been repeatedly recognised for how we have been looking after them, offering the option to rebook with no admin fee, a Refund Credit Note or a full cash refund, and we will continue to do this.

“For bookings due to travel to the Canary Islands from 27th September onwards, we are continuing to monitor the situation very closely, and will provide an additional update once we receive further information from the government.

“Once again, we would like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding.”

The news comes a day after Jet2 suspended all holidays heading to Crete and Zante up to and including September 20.

Flights heading out to other Greek destinations from Scotland remain unaffected - despite quarantine rules being enforced for passengers heading back from Greece.
