Jet2 issue disruption warning to holidaymakers heading to Spain this month

Holidaymakers travelling to Spain between now and mid-April have been issued a warning by Jet2. The airline, which flies to dozens of European destinations from East Midlands Airport and nine other UK locations, says passengers flying to two airports may have to contend with strike action by ground handling staff.

Walkouts are planned at Barcelona and Lanzarote airports three days a week from February 27 until April 13. There may be disruptions and delays at those airports on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during that period as a result, Jet2.com has warned.

The airline says it will "try to keep any disruption to a minimum". Travellers are advised to check for the latest information on the Jet2 website "at least 12 hours" before their flight and should arrive at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled departure time, the MEN reports.

A statement on the Jet2 website reads: "We wanted to let you know that Ground Handling strike action is taking place on 27th February 2023 through to 13th April 2023 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, supported by the Swissport Ground Handling Service in Barcelona and Lanzarote (Arrecife).

"This means that there will not be as many members of staff available at the Airport. If you're affected, rest assured we'll try to keep any disruption to a minimum."
