Jessops in Nottingham city centre permanently closed as sign is painted over

A photographic retail company has closed its store in Nottingham city centre.

Jessops, which had a store located in Clumber Street, confirmed the site had permanently closed after the sign was removed and covered in black paint.

The camera retailer entered administration back in 2013, before being rescued by Dragons' Den star Peter Jones, who formed the Jessops Group Limited and its related company.

By April 2016 there were a total of 52 stores across the country following a spate of reopenings in the years following its collapse.

Jessops, however, has not confirmed why its Nottingham site has closed down, despite being contacted by Nottinghamshire Live.

The store now remains vacant as another big name leaves the high street in the city.

The closest store to the city is now in Leicester, where the company was founded.

A number of other retail outlets and restaurants in the hospitality sector have also closed down during lockdown, including M&S Home in Lister Gate, Radley, Pret, Shoe Zone and Cath Kidston.

Other notable closures include Overdraught, Belgo and the Coffee House.

Many companies have cited the coronavirus pandemic as a reason for closure.
