Jesse Marsch has bought himself time with Leeds United's win at Liverpool

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Jesse Marsch has bought himself some time with the win at Liverpool. Leeds became the first Premier League side in over 18 months to win at Anfield, which in the process, ended their eight-match winless run.

Marsch had been under severe pressure ahead of the trip to Merseyside, with supporters not afraid to voice their discontent in the defeats to Leicester City and Fulham. The writing had appeared to be on the wall, particularly with an away match against Liverpool to follow, but the unlikely win has certainly lifted the mood at the club.

Leeds now have just two matches to play ahead of the World Cup break in less than two weeks' time, first hosting Bournemouth, before a trip to Tottenham Hotspur. Speaking to MOTLeedsNews, Robinson thinks that barring a 'catastrophe' against the Cherries, Marsch now has at least until after Qatar in the dugout at Elland Road.

“In all honesty, I think he’s bought himself time. It was a fantastic result when his back was up against the wall. He’s an infectious character. There’s a lot to work on but his infectiousness and his passion are great.

“From a Leeds point of view, they had a fantastic result against Chelsea and did the same against Liverpool and played really well against Arsenal but didn’t get a result there. Can he get the same performance out of the players against lesser opposition? That’s the big question.

“He pulled off an unbelievable result [against Liverpool] and now, going into that game against Bournemouth is huge because his job is on the line. If it was a different result and they lost at Anfield and then it was another loss against Bournemouth. I think he’d have been gone before the World Cup.

“But now because he’s got a win at Liverpool, regardless of what happens at Bournemouth unless it’s a catastrophe, he keeps his job going into the break with the next game against Spurs away.”
