Jesse Lingard sends classy message to England team-mates after Euro 2020 omission

Despite a sensational end to the season on loan at West Ham United, Jesse Lingard hadn't quite done enough in the eyes of England boss Gareth Southgate, who has opted to leave the attacking midfielder at home this summer instead of taking him to the Euros.

Originally named in the provisional squad, Lingard was cut from the side when it came to whittling the side down to 26.

Despite knowing he will not be featuring in the tournament, Lingard was still selected to feature in both of England's warm up games against Austria and Romania respectively, both of which ended 1-0 to the Three Lions.

With the opening group game against the Czech Republic creeping ever closer, Lingard opted to send his teammates a message of good luck as they prepare to try and secure England's first major trophy since 1966.

Lingard's took to Twitter to say: "When it comes to being involved with the boys and representing my country I’ll never stop smiling. I’ll be supporting the team all summer!

"Good luck to the lads! Bring it home", his message signed off with three lion emojis.

Throughout his career, Lingard has often performed better on the international stage than at club level, struggling to make an impact towards the end of his time at parent club Manchester United before his loan spell with the Hammers.

Lingard's performances at the 2018 World Cup came off the back of his most successful season at Old Trafford, where he bagged 13 goals and seven assists before notching again at the tournament in the 6-1 drubbing of Panama.

Since then, Southgate has often called upon him, with Lingard's England record currently sitting at four goals in 29 appearances.

Should Gareth Southgate have picked Jesse Lingard for the Euros? Let us know in the comments section.

Lingard was offered a brief window of optimism when Trent Alexander Arnold was forced to withdraw from the squad after suffering an injury in the warm-up game vs Austria.

Debate sparked over whether Lingard or Southampton's James Ward Prowse would be called up in the Liverpool full-back's place, but both ended up missing out.

Brighton defender Ben White has instead made the cut, given Harry Maguire struggling to shake off ligament damage, White could be called upon early in the tournament.
