Jesse Lingard reveals Nottingham Forest injury update ahead of West Ham clash

Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard has provided an injury update with a post on social media showing him back in training.

The former Manchester United man has missed out on the squads against Fulham and Man City due to niggling injuries in his Achilles and knee. It comes after the midfielder returned to the matchday squad against Leeds United, where he was an unused substitute.

Lingard has not made an appearance in the Premier League since a 3-0 defeat against former club United back in December. His only appearance this year came as a second half substitute against the same team in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

But it now seems that Lingard could be closing in on a return to action ahead of the weekend's Premier League clash against West Ham United. The Reds travel to the London Stadium for Saturday’s 3pm kick off, with the Hammers in the last relegation place.

As preparations for the match get underway, Lingard has posted a series of videos and pictures on Instagram showing him back in training with Forest’s first team. Clips show him taking part in a shooting drill, while there’s pictures showing him working alongside the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White.

The pictures also show heavy strapping on the player’s knee, which has been one of the problems keeping him out of action. Alongside the pictures, Lingard wrote: "Back in my happy place, we always bounce back stronger.”

Speaking about Lingard ahead of the weekend’s game against Man City, Steve Cooper said that the team were working with the player to get him back as soon as possible.

“Jesse is still nurturing two niggles, his Achilles’ and his knee, that he’s struggled to get rid of completely, and it’s held him back at times," Cooper said ahead of the clash with the reigning champions. "We’re working with him. We’ll see on the weekend or beyond that, we don’t know.”
