Jermaine Jenas makes Manchester United and Pep Guardiola claim

Not even double Premier League winning manager Pep Guardiola could solve the current problems at Manchester United, according to former Tottenham and Newcastle star Jermaine Jenas.

United have endured a disastrous start to the season, winning just two of their opening eight Premier League games to stretch their rotten run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to five wins in 23 games.

That form has seen Solskjaer come under intense scrutiny himself, but pundit Jenas believes the issues at United run much deeper than the manager.

"The biggest problem for Manchester United is not necessarily Ole," Jenas told the Daily Express . "It is that the club doesn’t have a vision.

"They have gone for quick-fix star players, quick-fix star managers as well. None of those things have worked.

"Now they are staring complete confusion in the face as to what to do with the football club."

Jenas also absolves the United players from blame, as well as Solskjaer, as United's struggles show no sign of relenting despite changes in management and in their transfer strategy.

Solskjaer had identified finishing in the top four as a target for the season, but with United currently 12th with nine points from eight games, Jenas believes Man City supremo Guardiola would have a tough job achieving that goal.

"On the pitch it is so mediocre, but I find it really hard to blame the players," he added. "Pep Guardiola could coach this group and they wouldn’t get into the top four.

"They are doing their best. They are what they are. A bunch of players being heavily weighed down by the badge, the Manchester United history.

"They are struggling to live up to the standards set years ago and I am not sure that is their fault."
