Jeremie Frimpong: Liverpool 'close in on £34m deal' for dream Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement

Target: Jeremie Frimpong - (London Standard)

Liverpool are set to wrap up the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, their dream replacement for the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Alexander-Arnold confirmed last week that he has decided to leave the Anfield club this summer, following the conclusion of his contract. It will see the end of a two-decade-long association with his boyhood club and leave Liverpool needing to replace one of the best right-backs in the world.

Liverpool have been anticipating Alexander-Arnold's impending exit for some time and earlier this year pinpointed Bayer Leverkusen's Frimpong as their first-choice target.

German outlet Kicker on Tuesday report that Frimpong is expected to sign for Liverpool this summer.

The report states that discussions between club and players have progressed well and an agreement is set to be reached to take the 24-year-old to Anfield on a five-year contract.

Frimpong has a €40million (£33.6m) release clause in his Leverkusen contract, meaning the Reds have been able to speak to right-back without his current club's involvement.

The first of two Premier League summer transfer windows open on June 1, when Frimpong will be able to officialy join, before closing on June 10 and then reopening on June 16.
