Jean-Philippe Gbamin's Everton season over after latest injury setback

Jinxed midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s season is over.

But the injury-cursed Everton player at least does not require surgery on the medial ligament injury he picked up in training at the week.

The 25 year old Ivory Coast international travelled to London on Tuesday for a scan on the problem - the latest in a long line of injury problems he has suffered since arriving at Goodison in August 2019, for a fee of £25m.

Specialists confirmed that he does not need to go under the knife, but instead isolate and rest the ligaments for a prolonged period.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Gbamin will not play again this season, and now the plan is for him to undergo extensive rehab in the summer, in an attempt to be fit for next season.

Gbamin had only just returned to the Everton squad after missing the best of two years through some serious injury problems.

He made a cameo appearance as a late substitute in the draw against Palace 10 days ago, and Ancelotti insisted afterwards the midfielder has all the attributes to be a top player for the club.

But his curse struck again in training, which means he has made just three appearances for Everton in his two seasons at the club, and only one starting, playing just 146 minutes in total...or £171,232 per minute.
