Jazz preview

American trombonist Robin Eubanks is most familiar to UK audiences from visits with the sophisticated Dave Holland band. He's a virtuoso who lends a remarkably balletic lightness to the impact of a traditionally rugged and earthy instrument. Eubanks has worked with the late drummers Elvin Jones and Art Blakey, the Mingus Big Band, the Rolling Stones, Eddie Palmieri, Talking Heads and many others. His tone is plummy and warm, he never seems to be in a hurry and he plays as if the direction of an improvisation and the overall shape of the ensemble music coexist easily in his mind. Eubanks also performs a remarkable one-man show which he calls Robin Eubanks Solo Real Time Project - combining acoustic and electric trombones, loops, percussion pads and vocals. This gig finds him with his power trio, alongside keys player Orrin Evans and drummer Kenwood Dennard.
