Jaylen Brown wants to model his approach to the game on Kevin Garnett

It seems Kevin Garnett comparisons are all the rage this week.

Speaking with ESPN’s Ros Gold-Onwude in a recent interview, Gold-Onwude brought up a tweet from Brown praising the legendary Celtics big man not long ago.

“I love how KG thinks and approaches the game,” related the Cal-Berkeley product in the tweet, and Gold-Onwude wanted to know the backstory behind that seemingly simple statement.

“First and foremost, just as a young person, looking at [how] he carried himself on the court and his demeanor, you’ve got to respect it. I think that’s how the game is supposed to be approached … competitiveness in things, the energy that he brought to the game. This is my spirit animal — I love it.”

“I don’t always personify it the way KG did, but as someone would definitely tap into it in the future,” added Brown.

When asked whether he saw any further similarities between himself and the soon-to-be-inducted Hall of Famer, the Georgia native respectfully demurred.

“I wouldn’t go that far. I mean, [he is] somebody I’m just playing inspired by, for sure,” he explained.

“Somebody’s I’m chasing here in Boston, he was the last person to win a championship. That’s something that I would like to do while I’m here with the Celtics, so I’m definitely inspired by Kevin Garnett. I think we’re totally, totally two different people[who] play two different positions. But I think … I would like to model my approach after his.”

“Hopefully we will, down the road, be looked at more similar but [he’s] somebody I’m definitely chasing for sure,” Brown added.

With a Hall of Fame career, a banner, an MVP and 15 All-Star appearances to his name among many other honors, it’s not hard to understand why Brown would want to model his game on Garnett’s relentless courtside approach.

And unlike some of his peers around the NBA getting attention for superficial aspects of his game, the cerebral young wing has already got the leadership abilities under his belt.
