With more than 1 billion hours amassed only 60 days into it's premier, the first season of "Monster", which focused on Jeffrey Dahmer became one of Netflix' biggest series ever. So it's no wonder that showrunner Ryan Murphy is going back into the archives for the the next season, focusing on the infamous case of the Menendez brothers, who were convicted of murdering their parents back in 1996. And this time around he's bringing some star power with him in the form of Oscar winner Javier Bardem and Oscar nominee Chloë Sevigny.

The announcement was made on Netflix's official account along with another tidbit: the brothers themselves will be played by Cooper Koch and Nicholas Chavez, who were both recently spotted in character on the set of the show in Los Angeles. No news yet about when exactly the show will premier but it was confirmed that it would happen this year.

Back in May, Netflix released a cryptic teaser trailer which consisted of a 911 call made by one of the brothers. The imageless video made made waves on social media, largely because of the success of the first season of the anthology series but also because of the enormous impact the case had on the American public in the mid 90s.

The first trial of the Menendez brothers, which ended with two deadlocked juries, was broadcast on Court TV in 1993 and made them household names. The second trial, which eventually led to convictions of life in prison, was much less publicized, in part because Judge Stanley Weisberg did not allow cameras in the courtroom.

Although the case has been featured in countless documentaries and a few made-for-TV movies throughout the years, this is without a doubt the biggest project ever developed around the Melendez brothers.
