FRISCO, Texas _ Now that rookie sensation Dak Prescott has officially been named the starting quarterback over veteran Tony Romo, who is ready to play after missing the first nine games of the season with fractured bone in his back, there are questions about whether he will be on a short leash and possibly looking over his shoulder.
Coach Jason Garrett said Prescott doesn't have to worry about getting a quick hook. He will get a chance to play, as well as play through his mistakes just as he has in leading the Cowboys to an 8-1 record, including a eight-game winning streak.
"We certainly don't want any of our players looking over their shoulder when they play," Garrett said. "We want to instill confidence in them going into the game. One of the best things Dak has done is handle the different ups and downs of a ball game, the different adversities and continue to play. That's been a good thing for our football team. I think the rest of our team has done a good job of that. So we'll continue to approach it that way and he'll take full advantage of the opportunities he gets."
Third quarterback Mark Sanchez said Prescott has handled things well so far.
"I don't think it changes it one iota," Sanchez said. "I don't think anything needs to be different for him. I think he understands that. I know he understands that. He'll still attack this week like he does every week and know that every team and that next step is the most important thing and the next game is the biggest game.
"He's got a great mentality and he's got a great team backing him. So it's been fun to watch this whole thing materialize and we'll continue to cultivate a great atmosphere and have fun."
