The top of both the album and singles charts remain unchanged this week. Jason Derulo notches up his fourth week at No 1 with Want to Want Me, while Muse’s seventh album, Drones, stays at No 1 for a second week.
The more interesting chart news comes further down the countdowns. In the singles chart. Four More Hours by Deorro and Chris Brown has risen a startling 82 places to No 4, while Britney Spears managed her 30th top 40 hit with Pretty Girls, her collaboration with Iggy Azalea. The week’s most streamed song is OMI’s Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn remix), with 2.17m listens, and an overall chart position of No 3.
In the albums, James Taylor has secured his highest chart placing for a studio album in 44 years, with Before This World reentering the chart at No 4. Paul Simon’s Ultimate Collection proves the power of a marketing campaign – the former No 1 cliimbs back up the chart from No 12 to No 3, despite being the thirs big Simon compilation – after The Essential Paul Simon (released in 2008 and rereleased in 2012) and Songwriter in the past seven years.
Adam Lambert secures his highest UK chart placing, with The Original High a new entry at No 8, while Foo Fighters win the sympathy vote. Despite cancelling their European tour – including a headlining Glastobury appearance – after Dave Grohl broke his leg, their Greatest Hits rises from No 43 to No 28.
