WASHINGTON -- Foreign Minister Taro Kono met with his South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung Wha in the U.S. capital on Saturday morning.
The pair confirmed that Japan and South Korea will maintain maximum pressure on North Korea in order to achieve its complete denuclearization. The two ministers also emphasized that Pyongyang must accept inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency as part of the denuclearization process.
Kono told Kang that the Japanese government is willing to contribute to the initial funding for inspections.
He also requested that South Korea raise the issue of Japanese citizens abducted by North Korea when South Korean President Moon Jae In meets North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
