SHIRAHAMA, Wakayama -- The Adventure World amusement park reopened a portion of its facilities on Thursday after having been closed to the public for a month and a half because of the coronavirus pandemic. The park in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, will admit just 5,000 visitors per day until Sunday. All visitors must be prefectural residents.
The park, which includes a zoo and aquarium, will decide how to proceed in the future after reviewing the situation.
When the park opened at 10:30 a.m., the park staff used thermographic cameras to check the temperatures of the guests to make sure they did not have fevers. The staff also checked guests' identification, such as driving licences, to confirm that they had Wakayama addresses and requested that everyone wear a mask.
Within the park, many guests stood in front of the popular panda exhibit and took pictures. A man who came from Wakayama City with his wife said, "It was nice [to get outside] after having to stay indoors for so long, and I'm glad to see the pandas are doing well."
