Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz LIVE: US Open men's final result and updates as Alcaraz clinches title

Sinner vs Alcaraz LIVE!

Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in four sets to clinch his sixth-career major title on Sunday night, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was the third time the pair had met in a Grand Slam final this year, and the Spaniard renewed his bragging rights over the Italian. He was quick off the mark despite the match starting almost an hour late, breaking Sinner in the first game of the afternoon before romping through to take a decisive victory in the first set.

Sinner, though, was reinvigorated in the second, and battled back into contention with an accelerated serve. It was a total role reversal. Alcaraz, all smiles in the first set, was left baffled by the Italian’s renewed accuracy and energy. But he found his feet again in the third set, coming within touching distance of an ignominious 6-0 victory but missing out as the affair dwindled down.

An increasingly leggy and frustrated Sinner came into the final set somewhat resigned, and it was no surprise to see Alcaraz come up with the all-important break and take the spoils. Catch up with the action as it happened below with Standard Sport’s dedicated blog!

Alcaraz: I see Sinner more than my family

22:53 , Arthur Ferridge

Speaking in his victory speech, Carlos Alcaraz jokes that he sees Jannik Sinner more than he sees his family as they seem to face one another in every tournament they play.

Sinner was rather more sombre, saying: “I tried my best today, I couldn't do more.”

GAME, SET, MATCH! *Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 6-4 Sinner

22:31 , Arthur Ferridge

The first point of this game rather sums up Sinner’s afternoon. A huge, slugging rally ends with the Italian missing just narrowly wide, and he looks to have lost the will.

Alcaraz took the initiative in making it 30-0 with his fastest serve of the tournament so far, but slipped ever so slightly to allow Sinner back in at 30-15.

Sinner then missed wide from a drop shot to hand Alcaraz a brace of championship points.

But the Italian rescued them both, taking the match to deuce.

The first advantage went the way of the grinning Spaniard, and an ace closed it out.

Carlos Alcaraz becomes a six-time Grand Slam winner!

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 5-4 Sinner*

22:24 , Arthur Ferridge

As Sinner served to stay in the game, Alcaraz made an immediate statement of intent, winning the first point in the game.

Sinner came straight back with the second and the subsequent third, before Alcaraz fired into the net off a misstruck backhand.

The Italian missed long as he looked to close the game out, but got it done at the second instance.

Alcaraz, then, will serve for the title.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 5-3 Sinner

22:20 , Arthur Ferridge

This is Carlos Alcaraz at his absolute best. A win here will send him top of the world rankings, and it would be oh so deserved.

He crashes through this service game to move within one of the US Open title.

Sinner is down, but not quite out. Yet.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 4-3 Sinner*

22:17 , Arthur Ferridge

Maybe one spoke to soon - Sinner clearly has something left in the tank here.

He drops just one point in this, his latest service hold. He is hanging on by his fingertips.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 4-2 Sinner

22:13 , Arthur Ferridge

Serving to extend his lead, Alcaraz again has Sinner on the ropes.

The fight seems to be fading from the Italian as his opponent strolls through to a decisive game win.

BREAK! Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 3-2 Sinner*

22:09 , Arthur Ferridge

Another stunning point has the crowd on its feet. Sinner and Alcaraz both cover an awful lot of ground as they send each other scrambling over the court. Both close to the net, but Sinner’s winner is barely wide of the mark.

All that effort takes us to an almost anticlimactic 15-15, before Sinner mashes a serve down the centre of the court which Alcaraz can only return to the stands.

The Spaniard equalises at 30, though, before an overdone second serve from Sinner hands him a break point.

And the Italian misses well long of the baseline to hand Alcaraz the lead in the decisive set.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 2-2 Sinner

22:05 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz is in a high gear and continuing to cruise.

An ace, not far off 130mph, has him a point to the good against Sinner.

The Italian runs him ragged to get within one of deuce, but another unreturnable serve sends him packing.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 1-2 Sinner*

21:59 , Arthur Ferridge

As with Alcaraz’s previous hold, this one is nice and routine for Sinner.

No thrills, no frills, no dramatics. We remain on serve through three games in the fourth set.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 1-1 Sinner

21:56 , Arthur Ferridge

It took nearly ten minutes for Sinner to hold his serve. Alcaraz gets it done in a much more prompt fashion.

He drops one point en route, but otherwise makes no mistake in levelling up the fourth set.

The final point is another delectable one. Sinner is up at the net, and Alcaraz looks to chip him. The Italian returns with a smash, but Alcaraz bends the return around him with a picture-perfect backhand.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 0-1 Sinner*

21:52 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz takes the first point in Sinner’s first service game, but drops the following two.

The Spaniard, though, has mastered the art of the body feint and wrong-foots Sinner again to draw back level.

An extended rally ends with Sinner missing wide right by the most narrow of margins, and that is break point for Alcaraz.

Sinner rescues it to force deuce, though, and it is an immediate advantage - but again Alcaraz responds.

Back at deuce, Sinner’s double fault has Alcaraz on the precipice again - but another stunning rally at the net brings us back to honours even for a third time.

Again Sinner fails to convert the advantage and we are at deuce for the fourth time.

And he gets it done after a marathon opening game.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) 0-0 Sinner*

21:42 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner serves to open the fourth set.

Alcaraz has one hand on the title.

Nothing but victory will do for the Italian.

Do not go anywhere!

SET! *Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) (6-1) Sinner

21:39 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz makes absolutely no mistake in closing out this third set.

He ends it with another blistering serve, and Sinner, characteristically, has no response.

A crucial fourth set awaits.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 5-1 Sinner*

21:36 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner is doing everything in his power to hang in this set, no matter how futile an end that may seem.

After being tied at 15-15, the Italian finds form with his serve and takes his first game of the set.

That’ll be a moral victory, if nothing else, as Alcaraz serves for the set.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 5-0 Sinner*

21:33 , Arthur Ferridge

Anyway, Sinner is serving to stay in the set.

Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 5-0 Sinner*

21:33 , Arthur Ferridge

Just not a lot you can be doing to defend shots like that, really.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 5-0 Sinner

21:32 , Arthur Ferridge

Another routine hold for Alcaraz, featuring a 118mph ace.

He drops one point to Sinner, but now finds himself on the precipice of winning the third set.

BREAK! Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 4-0 Sinner*

21:28 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner has the shakes! He falls to a 0-30 deficit immediately after a pair of missed forehands.

Alcaraz, then, hits a cross-court stunner to set up a trio of break points.

He misses his finisher at the first, but Sinner misses wide to gift him the break on the second.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 3-0 Sinner

21:23 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner threatened to break back here, taking an early 0-30 lead, but Alcaraz was having none of it.

A remarkable curving overhand smash halves the deficit, before a more routine point has Alcaraz back level.

From there it is a relatively straightforward conversion for the Spaniard. Sinner has no response. The momentum swings again.

BREAK! Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 2-0 Sinner*

21:19 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz won the first set after breaking Sinner in his first service game, and was clearly out to do the same in this game, taking an early 0-30 lead.

But Sinner found his feet and hit all the right shots to equalise, the power of his second serve keeping the Spaniard at bay.

A powerful forehand missed wide, though, to give Alcaraz a shot at the break - and he made no mistake. A big miss from Sinner has Alcaraz up a break!

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 1-0 Sinner

21:14 , Arthur Ferridge

A wobble from Alcaraz as we open set three here. He lets Sinner take this game to 30 apiece.

But the Spaniard comes back with a piledriver forehand and lets out a guttural ‘vamos’ in celebration.

He holds his serve.

*Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) 0-0 Sinner

21:12 , Arthur Ferridge

It is Alcaraz’s turn to serve as we open the third set.

SET! Alcaraz (6-2) (3-6) Sinner*

21:09 , Arthur Ferridge

A bit of a tentative game here. Sinner and Alcaraz trade points to kick us off.

But an extended rally which ends with Sinner dictating the pace from the net sets the tone for the rest of the game.

He extends his lead to 40-15, and takes the second set.

We have a game on our hands!

*Alcaraz (6-2) 3-5 Sinner

21:05 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz is serving to stay in the second set here.

He slips in the first point, but wins two in quick succession to edge back ahead.

Sinner is not rolling over, though, and hits a blistering return to prolong the game, but Alcaraz gets it over the line with a lightning serve which the Italian cannot return.

Sinner will now serve for the second set.

Alcaraz (6-2) 2-5 Sinner*

21:00 , Arthur Ferridge

An awkward miss-hit from Sinner gives Alcaraz an early one-point lead in this game.

But he comes back into contention after Alcaraz misses the baseline again, and remonstrates as he resets for the next point.

Sinner takes his turn to go long - only barely, mind - and again Alcaraz leads.

But the Italian’s serve still seems too much for Alcaraz, and he holds his serve.

Time fast running out for Alcaraz to rescue this set.

*Alcaraz (6-2) 2-4 Sinner

20:55 , Arthur Ferridge

Carlos Alcaraz, suddenly, has a mountain to climb, and he produces a textbook game here to keep his head above water.

He sorely needs a break here to stay in this second set.

Alcaraz (6-2) 1-4 Sinner*

20:50 , Arthur Ferridge

This fortune reversal has seemingly come from nowhere. Suddenly it is Sinner grinning all over the court, while Alcaraz’s head looks to be spinning.

The pair trade unforced errors to take it to 40-30, but Sinner sees it out.

He celebrates, but Alcaraz is quick back to the bench as he looks to recentre himself and go again.

BREAK! *Alcaraz (6-2) 1-3 Sinner

20:45 , Arthur Ferridge

Fantastic tennis from Sinner! He has finally found his feet after an hour or so of play here. He sends Alcaraz scrambling to take a 30-0 lead in the game.

And 30-0 becomes 40-0 after Alacaraz fires long from the backhand.

Alcaraz is made to defend a break point for the first time in this tournament - but fails!

Sinner breaks!

Alcaraz (6-2) 1-2 Sinner*

20:41 , Arthur Ferridge

Some remarkable rallies in this game. Alcaraz and Sinner win one each in the first two points, the second being a lengthy slugfest.

Sinner takes a first lead in the game with an ace.

Another brief point takes him to the brink, and Alcaraz fails to return another serve to get it over the line.

We remain on serve.

*Alcaraz (6-2) 1-1 Sinner

20:36 , Arthur Ferridge

An impressive if uninteresting hold from Alcaraz, who does not drop a point in a very brief game.

*Alcaraz (6-2) 0-1 Sinner

20:35 , Arthur Ferridge

Interesting to note that in each of the last three grand slam meetings between this pair, the player who lost the first set went on to win the match.

Alcaraz (6-2) 0-1 Sinner*

20:34 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner seemed to have started the second set well, but it has all unravelled at a remarkable pace.

He takes a 30-0 lead with a smile, then grimaces as Alcaraz equalises.

It is the Spaniard’s turn to celebrate then as he comes out on top of a lengthy rally to set up a break point, but Sinners forces deuce with a powerful serve. Another one hands him the advantage.

A third sees him hold his serve. The second set is already off to a better start than the first.

Alcaraz (6-2) 0-0 Sinner*

20:29 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner serves to open the second set.

Alcaraz 6-2 Sinner

20:28 , Arthur Ferridge

An interesting statistic, here. Jannik Sinner hit nine unforced errors in that first set.

Alcaraz only hit two. That’s the difference.

SET! *Alcaraz 6-2 Sinner

20:27 , Arthur Ferridge

As straightforward a game as you will see from Alcaraz, who takes a 40-0 lead and converts his first of three set points.

A quick fist pump, but no overcelebration. There is plenty of tennis left to play here in Flushing Meadows.

*Alcaraz 5-2 Sinner

20:25 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz serves for the set.

BREAK! Alcaraz 5-2 Sinner*

20:23 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner is starting to crack - already.

Alcaraz is on top of his game - quick and accurate as ever.

Sinner, meanwhile, is missing simple winners and already looking visibly frustrated.

Alcaraz goes 15-40 clear, and completes his second break on his second attempt as Sinner misses a drop shot at the net.

Alcaraz 4-2 Sinner*

20:21 , Arthur Ferridge

Checking back in with the security queue, a fair few thousand supporters are still waiting to get into the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Many of them will miss a considerable portion of this match.

*Alcaraz 4-2 Sinner

20:19 , Arthur Ferridge

One, two, three, four. Carlos Alcaraz holds to love, and closes it with an ace for good measure.

Every shot he hit in that game went exactly where he wanted. He is totally on song.

Alcaraz 3-2 Sinner*

20:15 , Arthur Ferridge

Carlos Alcaraz is feeling himself here, and Sinner does not appear to be happy about that fact.

He jumps to a 0-30 lead in the game, hitting the most delicate of drop shots to win that second point. He walks away grinning after that one - he knows how sweet a hit it was.

Sinner responds with another piledriver of a serve which the Spaniard only barely manages to return.

A lengthy rally and an overhit backhand from Alcaraz brings the Italian back level as he looks to dodge being broken for a second time in this first set.

And he closes it out with another brace of no-nonsense serves.

*Alcaraz 3-1 Sinner

20:11 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner plays a very smart tactical point in response to Alcaraz’s first serve. He keeps the Spaniard moving and quickly closes the distance to the net to take an early lead in game four.

But Alcaraz is having none of it. He rips back to hold his serve.

Alcaraz 2-1 Sinner*

20:05 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner seems to be finding his feet here.

As Alcaraz walked out, he told Sky Sports that it was his serve that set him apart, but he is struggling to respond to Sinner’s, which is regularly topping 125mph.

When he can appropriately return it, though, Alcaraz’s forehand power is really confounding Sinner.

*Alcaraz 2-0 Sinner

20:02 , Arthur Ferridge

A straightforward hold from Alcaraz in his first service game of the day.

He closes it out with a classy drop-shot which totally wrong-foots Sinner.

The Spaniard is in his element.

*Alcaraz 1-0 Sinner

19:58 , Arthur Ferridge

If the rest of this match is half as gripping as that first game, we are in for a real treat tonight. Don’t go anywhere!

BREAK! Alcaraz 1-0 Sinner*

19:57 , Arthur Ferridge

Sinner leaps to a 30-0 start, but a brace of unforced errors brings Alcaraz back level.

A third hands the Spaniard his first break point of the evening.

Sinner is not prepared to lose his serve so early in the day, though, and hits a blistering serve which Alcaraz fails to return. Deuce.

It is advantage Sinner after a huge rally ends with Alcaraz firing long, but he cannot convert the advantage.

Another ace means another advantage, though, and again Alcaraz brings it back level! Sinner simply cannot cope with his forehand power.

Sinner shoots into the net to allow Alcaraz a second break point, and this time he makes no mistake.

Alcaraz leads!

Alcaraz 0-0 Sinner*

19:49 , Arthur Ferridge

The first point of the day goes the way of Sinner. A sign of things to come?

At long last, the US Open final is underway!

Colour schemes

Something of a kit clash today, as Sinner takes to the court wearing a brick red get-up, head to toe.

Alcaraz wins the toss...

...and elects to receive.

Defending champion Sinner will serve first.

We will be underway momentarily!

How are the fans getting on?

19:41 , Arthur Ferridge

As Sinner and Alcaraz take the court, the stadium looks to be, at best, three-quarters full.

Sinner on defending his title

19:40 , Arthur Ferridge

Jannik Sinner says this match is about more than just defending his title. He wants to beat the best player in the world.

He says: “Finals are always a special occasion. I don’t think about defending or not. I just hope for a good match. Alcaraz is the best player in the world right now.”

Alcaraz speaks prematch

19:38 , Arthur Ferridge

What sets Carlos Alcaraz apart? In his own words, his serve.

He tells Sky: “I just put my attention to improve as much as I can. I am happy in the way that I am serving. It will be difficult today, but I am ready.

“I try not to think (about rankings). Today is a lot of things on the line.”

Players will walk out as expected

19:32 , Arthur Ferridge

Alcaraz and Sinner will walk out on the Arthur Ashe Stadium 7.37pm BST.

The stadium is far from full as thousands of supporters remain in the security queue.

Prematch proceedings are underway. We begin with the American national anthem.

"Less than half full"

19:30 , Arthur Ferridge

According to the Sky Tennis punditry team, the Arthur Ashe Stadium remains less than half full.

We are due to get underway in less than ten minutes, and thousands of fans remain stuck in queues outside the ground.

A reminder that only one gate to the stadium is currently operational due to the extra security measures imposed.

Hope Trump and his mates are enjoying themselves.

Differing approaches to the delay

19:23 , Arthur Ferridge

As the delay wears on, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are killing time in very different ways.

Sinner appears to be playing tag with his coach, while Alcaraz does yoga.

More on the match delay

19:17 , Arthur Ferridge

It transpires that, due to security measures imposed because of Trump’s appearance in the stands, only one door to the stadium is open.

The stadium holds 23,771 people, for context.

A further delay is possible.

How will the players respond to this delay?

19:14 , Arthur Ferridge

As this delay to the match start approaches half an hour, one wonders how Sinner and Alcaraz will handle the disruption to their preparations.

It could prove a deciding factor in the match if one player stumbles from the start.

MATCH START DELAYED

18:56 , Arthur Ferridge

The start of tonight’s match has been pushed back to 7.30pm.

Fans are delayed entering the stadium due to extra security measures put in place to protect a certain American politician who has decided to attend tonight.

Celebrities in attendance

18:46 , Arthur Ferridge

Some big names are expected to be in attendance at the Arthur Ashe Stadium today.

Among their number are President of the United States Donald Trump, and the equally influential Pep Guardiola.

The Manchester City manager is evidently bored with the international break.

Injury worries for Sinner?

18:35 , Arthur Ferridge

Jannik Sinner has struggled with injury throughout 2025, and he suffered a minor injury scare in yesterday’s semi-final win over Felix Auger-Aliassime.

He took a medical timeout between the second and third sets.

Will that play a role today?

Relive the Wimbledon final

18:20 , Arthur Ferridge

Jannik Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in four sets at Wimbledon and 1106 days later did it all over again.

Come the end of the world number one’s career, the first of those victories might not even merit a passing mention. It was a relatively low-key affair, Sinner getting the better of Alcaraz in the last-16 in 2022 to reach a first quarter-final on the SW19 courts.

Three years later, and with Alcaraz not having tasted defeat at Wimbledon since, Sinner delivered on the biggest stage of them all. He came from a set behind to dethrone the Spaniard on Centre Court in a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory.

Alcaraz was on a 20-match unbeaten Wimbledon run, eyeing a third straight title on Centre Court and with the added mental edge of five consecutive wins over Sinner. He had won all five of his previous Grand Slam finals.

There was also the lingering memory of the French Open final and that remarkable evening five weeks ago. Sinner had three championship points against Alcaraz in Paris, let them slip and fell to an agonising defeat.

Sinner, though, secured revenge at the first opportunity.

ICYMI: Sabalenka sees off home favourite Anisimova to retain title

18:05 , Arthur Ferridge

The women’s bracket was decided last night as Aryna Sabalenka beat Amanda Anisimova in straight sets. Here’s how it happened:

Aryna Sabalenka has successfully defended her US Open crown after defeating Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova in straight sets on Saturday night.

The world No1 beat the hometown favourite 6-3, 7-6 (3) to claim back-to-back victories in US Open women’s singles finals.

At the last attempt, this marks Sabalenka’s first Grand Slam win of the year after losing to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff in the Australian and French Open finals respectively.

As for Anisimova, she can take heart from a much improved Grand Slam final performance. The American eighth seed was thrashed 6-0 6-0 in under an hour by Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon earlier this summer, but avoided consecutive whitewashes.

Anisimova broke Sabalenka when she was serving for the championship then held her serve, which ultimately forced a second set tie-break.

The Belarusian stormed into a 4-1 lead and kept her cool in a near-flawless tiebreak to eventually see off the challenge of Anisimova on her third championship point.

Alcaraz vs Sinner head to head

17:50 , Arthur Ferridge

This match will mark the third time this year that Alcaraz and Sinner have met in a Grand Slam final.

Fittingly, they have won one each - Alcaraz at Roland Garros, and Sinnner on the lawns at Wimbledon. They are truly in a league of their own, but who will edge ahead tonight?

Here’s the full head-to-head:

Alcaraz wins: 9

Sinner wins: 5

Standard Sport prediction

17:40 , Arthur Ferridge

Jannik Sinner may come into this match as the world No1, but it is harder than ever to bet against Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard came into this tournament sporting a new look having shaved his head, but his tennis has been perfectly routine.

While the Serb has diminished with age, it still takes some doing to polish him off in straight sets.

Expect this one to go the distance, but Alcaraz should be the one toting the trophy home at the end of the evening.

Alcaraz to win in five sets.

Sinner route to the final

17:30 , Arthur Ferridge

Similar to his opponent today, Jannik Sinner has gone largely unchallenged so far at the US Open. He has, however, dropped two sets en route to the final.

Third round vs Denis Shapovalov: 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3

Round of 16 vs Alexander Bublik: 6-1, 6-1, 6-1

Quarter-final vs Lorenzo Musetti: 6-1, 6-4, 6-2

Semi-final vs Felix Auger-Aliassime: 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4

Final vs Carlos Alcaraz: TBC

Alcaraz route to the final

17:20 , Arthur Ferridge
