Jannik Sinner storms into Australian Open third round in dominant display

NEW DELHI: Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner continued his quest for a first Grand Slam title with a commanding straight-sets victory, breezing past Dutch qualifier Jesper de Jong in the Australian Open's second round.

The 22-year-old fourth seed showcased his prowess on Margaret Court Arena, dispatching De Jong 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in a brisk 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Sinner, gracious in victory, acknowledged De Jong's skills, describing him as a "very good player" and recognizing his potential for future success in Grand Slam tournaments.

The Italian's next challenge awaits, as he is set to face either the 26th-seeded Sebastian Baez from Argentina or Colombia's unseeded Daniel Elahi Galan in the third round.

The rising star had a breakthrough year in 2023, securing his first Masters title in Toronto and reaching the championship match against the formidable Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals.

Sinner's impressive performances have heightened expectations, with many anticipating that a Grand Slam victory is only a matter of time for the talented player.
