Jane Fallon shares health update following second breast cancer surgery

Best-selling novelist Jane Fallon has shared positive news regarding her health, confirming her second breast cancer surgery "went well" and expressing her eagerness to "get back to normal".

The update comes just over a month after the 65-year-old author, known for her long-term partnership with comedian Ricky Gervais, revealed her breast cancer diagnosis following a routine mammogram.

Writing on Instagram on Thursday, Fallon detailed the outcome of the procedure. She stated: "So, my second surgery went well. They got the clear margin they need on the original excision, which is great."

She added that while a "new little patch of precancerous cells" was found, "everyone agrees more surgery would be overkill," noting that "a huge (per cent) of pre cancer doesn’t develop into cancer."

Discussing her next steps, she explained: "I saw the oncologist today and we’ve agreed the risks of radiation outweigh the benefits in my case. Which leaves Tamoxifen (or similar) or wait and see (my preferred option)."

Fallon admitted her apprehension about medication, saying: "I’m very nervous about going the drug route, because I know the side effects can be hideous, but I’m taking all the info on board & luckily there’s no pressure to make a quick decision."

According to the NHS, breast cancer remains the most prevalent cancer among women in the UK. Early detection through mammograms is crucial, as it significantly increases the likelihood of successful treatment.

Fallon is the acclaimed author of 14 books, including popular titles such as Got You Back, Queen Bee, and Welcome To The Neighbourhood. Her debut novel, Getting Rid Of Matthew, is currently being adapted into a comedy-romance film, set to star Emma Roberts, Luke Wilson, and Heather Graham.
