Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has taken to social media to thank fans for their support after a break in at his house.
It was revealed on Sunday that the Belgian's family were the victims of an armed robbery while the player was away with the team for the Champions League game against RB Leipzig.
The player's wife and children were at home at the time of the incident but were unhurt.
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a residential address in NW3 at 7.49pm on March 10 to a report of a burglary.
"Officers attended. It was reported four men wearing balaclavas, armed with knives, had forced entry to the property and stolen a number of items before leaving.
"Nobody was injured. The suspects had left the scene before officers arrived. There have been no arrests and inquiries continue.”
Vertonghen himself confirmed that his family are unhurt: "The family is in shock, but okay," he said.
“I'm fine. It was a great shock to the whole family of course, but it is what it is. I'm not going to tell you what was stolen. We want to keep everything private."
The player has now taken to social media to send a message to fans.
"Thanks everyone for the kind messages!" He wrote on his Instagram stories.
"Family is everything! Stay safe!"
Vertonghen is out of contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season with Inter Milan the latest team to be linked with an interest in the centre back.
