Jan Vertonghen happy at 'great club' Tottenham but stays quiet on contract situation

Jan Vertonghen remains coy on his Tottenham future beyond the end of the season, though insists he is happy at the club.

While Toby Alderweireld finally put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half year deal in December after a long-running contract saga, the future of his club and international team-mate remains unclear.

Vertonghen's current deal is due to expire this summer and he is now free to discuss a free transfer with overseas clubs.

Napoli and Ajax are among the outfits to be linked with the 32-year-old, who is believed to be open to extending his stay at Spurs.

Quizzed on his contract situation following Tuesday's FA Cup third-round replay victory over Middlesbrough, Vertonghen was eager to avoid the subject.

"I won't answer... I feel like everything I say will affect it in one way or another, so I prefer not to answer," he said.

However, the versatile defender added that he was perfectly content at Tottenham and with living in the capital.

"I'm a happy man and I love the guys," he said. "Life is good in London and at this great club, so that's all I want to say."
