It’s a new year and a new Newsbeat at Radio 1, where the programme has got even downer with the kids than it already was with a brand new jingle.

We’re getting a touch of Jan Hammer – it was 30 years ago, he’s probably cool again now – but is it a hit, miss or maybe?

Miami Nice? BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat’s new theme tune

The last remix Monkey can remember was in 2011 - here’s Chris Moyles “live mixing” it with David Guetta. Maybe Nick Grimshaw can do something similar with, er …Mark Ronson.

Sounds from a bygone era. Chris Moyles - whoever he is - makes merry with the Newsbeat backbeat

But there’s been no shortage of makeovers in its five decades on air, with the programme now reinventing itself again for 2015.

Our favourite is from 1976 - so simple, so Chic - but there are no shortage to choose from, including this variant (“Listen! Watch! Share!”) presumably influenced by Pet Shop Boys’ Paninaro. Or these. Or this little lot, including the station’s first news bulletin, which had a shipping forecast but no jingle at all. That’ll never last.
