Jamie Osborne signs new Leinster deal

Leinster star Jamie Osborne has signed a new contract with the province.

Osborne, 21, has made a massive impact in this, his third season. He has started in 10 of his 12 appearances.

Half of those have been at inside centre but the versatile back has also lined out at full-back and on the wing.

He has made three Champions Cup appearances this term, scoring a stand-out try against Gloucester in mid-December.

Earlier this week Leinster confirmed that he sustained a knee ligament injury in the game against Edinburgh and will be unavailable for a number of weeks.

His rise was acknowledged by Ireland boss Andy Farrell, who included the Naas man in his extended Six Nations squad.

Speaking before the tournament, Farrell paid tribute to the emergence of Osborne.

"He’s played really well on the wing, he’s played in both centre positions and he’s grown up as a full-back," said the Ireland supremo.

“So he’s very comfortable and you see him there with the left peg and dropping into full-back with Leinster, he’s very comfortable there.

“It’s good for him because he’s been in our squad quite a few times now so he’s not coming in as that nervous kid

“He’s been able to be himself and what’s been pretty impressive with that experience that he has had is that he’s made the best use of that when he’s been given the opportunity, with Robbie being injured.

“He’s grabbed his chance, hasn’t he?”
