Jamie Oliver's quirky twist on classic hot cross buns has people salivating

Hot cross buns are a much-loved treat at Easter time, with Christians traditionally enjoying them once lent is over, and they're able to enjoy a delightful sweet treat again.

But with Greggs announcing that they've axed the tasty buns this Easter, fans may be scrambling for recipes to make them at home to avoid disappointment.

Jamie Oliver is known for his simple, easy, and accessible recipes which will make the whole family happy. He also loves quirky takes on a classic, and his new Easter hot cross bun loaf has left people inspired.

His modern recreation of the traditional hot cross bun still has the 'look' we've come to know and love, just in a loaf form, rather than individual little buns.

On his website, he urged people to use the hero hot cross bun recipe as their starting point, and then, bakers can branch out into other iterations of the recipe - including the loaf.

To make the loaf, he wrote: "Follow the hero recipe to Step 10, then divide the dough into two pieces, and place into two greased 450g/1lb loaf tins.

"Continue to Step 13, then pipe a cross on each loaf, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when the bottom of the tin is tapped. Continue as normal."

On social media, people flocked to compliment the loaf, gushing over the fact that they were desperate to try it.

Someone wrote: "Ooooo yeahhhhh! Love the loaf idea. Gonna give that a try myself."

"Yum yum yum yum I'm dribbling at the thought lol", another admitted.

"You are a man after my own heart!!! Love your work", a foodie praised.

A commenter pointed out that it'd be "easy to put in toaster" too.
