Jamie Murray breaks US Open record as Scot clinches SEVENTH Grand Slam title

Scotland's Jamie Murray scooped his seventh Grand Slam title with a fourth consecutive triumph at the US Open .

The Scot defended his mixed doubles crown alongside Bethanie Mattek-Sands in straight sets at Flushing Meadows.

The pair eased to a 6-2 6-3 win over top seeds Chan Hao-ching and Michael Venus on Saturday.

Victory makes Murray the first man to win three straight mixed doubles titles at the tournament, with he and Mattek-Sands retaining they won 12 months ago.

And the 33-year-old said: "We played amazing, the whole two weeks.

"We've had so much fun on the court. I'm really, really, really happy to win again."

The success followed Murray's exit from the men's doubles on Friday.

He and partner Neal Skupski were unable to get the better of top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah.

Murray and Skupski lost out 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (10-8) in just over two hours in New York.

But that defeat was a distant memory 24 hours later as the Dunblane star was back on the winner's podium.

His latest achievement follows a first US victory alongside Martina Hingis in 2017, backed up the following year with a men's doubles success with partner Bruno Soares.

Brother Andy Murray wasn't present at this year's tournament as he continues his long battle back from a chronic hip issue.

The younger Murray sibling returned to the singles circuit at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati in August, seven months after career-saving surgery.
