Jamie Genevieve gives interview in the bath and credits success to being 'Scottish and a normal person'

She's one of the most well-known faces from the worldwide beauty industry.

Scot Jamie Genevieve is a much respected make-up artist, social media influencer, business woman and YouTube star with a worldwide following of millions and celebrity pals including Drew Barrymore and Rihanna.

The 27-year-old has made no secret of her love for her home country over the years.

And now she's revealed that it's her roots that have helped her become who she is today, as she credits her phenomenal success to "the fact I'm Scottish" and a "normal person".

Joining beauty journalist Sali Hughes for her popular In The Bathroom YouTube series, the vlogger told all about her life  from the comfort of her bath in her Glasgow home.

After Sali pressed her on what led to her amazing achievements at such a young age, humble Jamie admitted she didn't like to think about it too much due to her "imposter syndrome".

But the star could think of one characteristic that made her stand out from the rest in such a highly competitive industry.

She said: "I think maybe the fact I'm Scottish, there wasn't that many Scottish people doing it, I think I've always been myself and people crave the mundane, they just want someone that's quite like them, that's not aways extravagant.

"People maybe found a little bit of comfort in the fact I'm a normal person."

Jamie rose through the ranks in the early days of Instagram to become one of its biggest draws.

Leaving her job at a Debenhams beauty counter in Glasgow when she was aged just 21, the entrepreneur says she is grateful to have started on her influencer journey later than most Instagram personalities do these days.

Jamie, who works alongside husband Jack after he left his tough bricklaying job to become her full-time editor, also said she never plans to leave Scotland, despite her jet-set and glamorous lifestyle.

She said: "I'm comfortable here, I'm a huge family person, an only child and I'm really close with my mum and dad and my friends.

"I really love it here. With industry being so busy and crazy, it's nice to come home somewhere quiet, and also I just really love Scotland.

"I don't know what it is but it makes me really happy when people say they enjoy Scotland, especially Glasgow."

She added: "I think at one point me and Jack thought about moving but we realised quickly we're working as much as we need and want to at the moment and working with such great companies that I love and they are more than happy to work with me up here, so why not just stay?

"I love the idea of having another place to go but I just love it here."

It's been an exciting time for Jamie, who recently launched her first makeup collection, VIEVEmuse.

After keeping the project under wraps throughout lockdown, she dropped a range of products earlier this month that she had been creating over the last few years, from eyeshadow palettes to lipsticks and highlighters.

The luxe range even has its own Instagram page which has already racked up 109,000 followers.

The products range from £15 and go up to £43 and are all completely vegan and cruelty free.

Many of the items have already proved to be extremely popular as they are sold out online.
