Jamie Carragher tells Chelsea the new manager appointment fans will 'fall in love' with

Jamie Carragher believes there is a clear dream candidate to become Chelsea manager, with the "broken" club in desperate need of being fixed.

Chelsea on Monday fell to a sixth-straight defeat, as a much-changed Nottingham Forest side ran out 3-1 winners at Stamford Bridge, which all but ended their faint hopes of finishing fifth and qualifying for next season's Champions League.

It's a chastening defeat for interim manager Callum McFarlane, who last week guided Chelsea to the FA Cup final with a win over Leeds.

McFarlane will remain in charge for the rest of the season, including for the Wembley showpiece, as Chelsea work on identifying a permanent successor.

Standard Sport understands that Andoni Iraola is of interest, along with Fulham's Marco Silva, and Carragher believes the Bournemouth head coach would produce football to make the fans fall back in love with the club.

Presented with a list of possible candidates on Sky Sports, Carragher said: "You can probably rule out the bottom three [Jose Mourinho, Frank Lampard and Antonio Conte]. They’ve all managed Chelsea before, so I don’t see that. I also don’t see [Crystal Palace head coach Olivier] Glasner, because of the back three.

"We’ve had this conversation before. I don’t see Xabi Alonso there, because of his link as a Liverpool player and Chelsea being a big rival at the time. I might be wrong on that but I think if he was coming to the Premier League, it would be Liverpool.

"[Cesc] Fabregas does look like right now one of the new hot things in football doing really well. Filipe Luis is doing really well, obviously had a spell at Chelsea as a player."

He added: "When you see someone like Iraola, I don’t think you could ever fall out of love with his team if you were a supporter. You understand what I mean?

"They always run. There’s always that running element. They will lose games. They will maybe pick up injuries because of the style of play.

"I would probably like to see it in a bigger job and how he adapts. It would be a lot more difficult with more games and probably would be a bit more injuries, a bit like Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool when Liverpool picked up injuries.

"I almost feel like Chelsea supporters need to fall back in love with the club again. Right now, I don’t feel like there’s any real feeling, there’s a real dislike for the people running the club but the people playing for the club as well."

Carragher laid the blame for Chelsea's struggles at board members Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly, claiming they have broken Chelsea and made the club undesirable for would-be signings.

"It’s shocking, and it comes from the top; that’s where it starts from," Carragher said. "There are five or six really top players on that pitch, and they’ve just been beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team.

"When you think, less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners. I mean, there’s no connection between the players and the staff, the players and the supporters.

"And you know what, in some ways it’s a good thing, it tells you that football isn’t just about spending and buying players, and a revolving door. It’s about creating something together; something special ... there’s absolutely nothing there, and all you can say is that this football club is broken."

He added: "If I were a young player, why would I sign for Chelsea? They'd give me 12 months and if I wasn't amazing, they'd buy another player in my place.

"How do you build a connection between players, fans and staff? It's not there."
