Jurgen Klopp’s team selection against Burnley will be telling about what Jurgen Klopp feels the team needs at the moment.
The suggestion from Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football was that Roberto Firmino hasn’t be at his usual high standards this season.
Firmino went through a rough patch without scoring earlier in the season, but has still bagged five goals in the Premier League.
However, he is without a goal in his last four outings, and Carragher highlighted his pressing numbers that have made him one of Europe’s most desired strikers are also down this year.
Carragher told Sky Sports: "At this moment, I think Mane and Salah are going through poor form. It happens.
"I'm still confident that Mane and Salah will start scoring goals again, but I must say I am worried for Firmino."
He added: "He's never been seen as the goal scorer, that's the responsibility of the other two.
"But he's there to chip in and when they're not scoring, and I just feel he needs to be a bigger goal threat.
"Yesterday [against Manchester United], he had a couple of chances but he's not quite striking the ball right. His bringing players into the game has dropped off too.
"And also the counter-pressing and winning the ball back has dropped off with Firmino - and not just this season.
"I'm actually going back to last season, when Liverpool won the league. I was a little bit worried then and I was thinking, 'Can he turn it around this season?'"
Liverpool are without a goal in their last three league matches, so Klopp will feel that something has to change when they face Burnley tonight.
Could that be taking Firmino out of the team and giving him a rest? Were Diogo Jota fit and available then that would be a likely possibility.
The likes of Takumi Minamino, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are squad players - but they can still have value by stepping in when one of the front three isn’t quite firing.
Klopp could well decide to put Firmino to the bench in place of one of these three, but the likelihood of that happening is still relatively small.
Firmino has been a vital player to the way Klopp sets his team up, and when the Brazilian doesn’t play well then quite often Liverpool don’t either.
Will Firmino start or be dropped against Burnley this evening? Team news an hour before kick-off will be interesting viewing, that’s for sure.
