Jamie Carragher makes shock Antonio Conte prediction despite recent Tottenham admission

Jamie Carragher has made a major prediction about Antonio Conte's future at Tottenham despite the success he has already found in N17. The Italian made the move back to the capital last November.

Conte led his Spurs side to a fourth-place finish last season, securing Champions League football for the upcoming campaign. The 53-year-old has also had a successful summer, both in regards to transfers and pre-season matches.

Tottenham have welcomed six new players to their squad are set to announce their sixth exit, with three being permanent moves. During pre-season friendlies, the Lilywhites have travelled to South Korea, Scotland and Israel, winning two, drawing one and losing one of the fixtures.

This week has now been the time for Conte to start preparing his side for the 2022/23 season, with Spurs welcoming Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the opening day. Spirits seem to be high in the Lilywhites camp and this will have only been boosted by the boss' comments just a few days ago.

"I have to be honest. In my career the contract was never important. I didn't need to sign contracts for one, two or three years. For the club it could also be a weight," he admitted. "I'm happy, I'm happy. We're working really well together. It's not that one year on the contract more or less can change the situation.

"For sure we want to continue to improve, to build something important for this club. If the idea continues to be in this way, there will be zero problems to continue my life in Tottenham because I stay well and I like this group of players and I have a good relationship with [Fabio] Paratici and with Daniel Levy.

"I repeat that I'm not a coach who needs to sign a contract for money. I don't need that. In this moment I don't need this. I need to have enthusiasm and the passion for this role," Conte added.

This reiterates the strong relationship the Italian has already built with those above him and his comments seem to send fans hope that he may be around longer than some expected. However, Carragher has made his own prediction and doesn't seem so positive about the 53-year-old staying put.

"There’s something about Spurs and Conte. I think we all know and Conte knows, he doesn’t stay around too long," the ex-Liverpool man admitted, on Sky Sports' Football Daily (via The Spurs Web).

"So, if he is going to do something, then he needs to do it quickly. I think he will know it in his own head. I don’t see Conte being at Spurs in more than two years. He could be gone next summer.

"I would be very surprised if he is there the following summer. So, I think for him it’s about, a bit like Jose [Mourinho], ‘I am here two or three years and I am going all-out for it’," Carragher added.

'Doing something quickly' is something Tottenham fans will welcome, with supporters hoping Conte can be the man to end Spurs' 14-year trophy drought and help them battle with those at the top of the Premier League. With the impact the Italian has already had in a short space of time, you would hope this will only continue.

Carragher's comments are a lot more negative than the comments the Spurs boss has made himself, in the last week. However, it is a big upcoming season for the Lilywhites and there will need to be success on and off the pitch to ensure Conte does stick around.
