Jamie Carragher identifies Arsenal's two 'bright spots' despite Mikel Arteta's woes

Arsenal were poor at Goodison Park on Saturday evening as they lost 2-1 to Carlo Ancelotti's side, with only two players earning praise for their performances from Jamie Carragher.

The Gunners were sloppy and failed to create enough chances to trouble Everton, and only had two shots on target – one of them being Nicolas Pepe’s penalty.

The result leaves Arsenal sat in 15th place in the Premier League, just four points above 18th-placed Burnley.

But Carragher was full of praise for two Arsenal players, as he lauded the performances of Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney.

The pair played along the left side of the pitch together and were effective in knowing when to overlap and play the ball forward.

Tierney played as the left-sided centre-back in a three-man central defensive unit, with Saka as a left midfielder.

And Carragher believes Saka may be Arsenal’s best player already, as he explained that whenever the teenager gets the ball he creates opportunities.

The former Liverpool defender waxed lyrical about the way the two combined on the left-hand side of the pitch.

“Well, these two have been really good down this side,” said Carragher.

“I keep mentioning Tierney and Saka involved again. They are the bright spots for Arsenal today.

“Up until now, it’s probably been an underwhelming performance from Arsenal.

“But they have a real connection together. Always looking to find each other. He [Saka] has been Arsenal’s best player.

“Every time he gets the ball it looks as though something is going to happen.

“To think at 19, he looks Arsenal’s best player.”
