Jamie Benn’s pair of late goals help Stars make history with seventh straight win

DALLAS — History now awaits the Stars.

With their 4-1 win over Arizona on Monday night, the Stars tied a franchise record with their seventh-straight win and can break the record with a win in Vegas on Wednesday night. Dallas has also won nine straight home games, and nine of its last 10 games overall.

Jamie Benn scored two goals, and Jacob Peterson and Roope Hintz each added one of their own. Braden Holtby made 18 saves to earn the win, and Alexander Radulov had two primary assists.

Peterson scored the game-winner with 10:59 left in the third period, hammering home a pass from Radulov.

Both of Benn’s goals came in a two-minute span in the third period after Peterson gave Dallas the lead.

Three minutes before Peterson’s game-winner, the Stars appeared to take a 2-1 lead when Peterson scored a goal while he was flopping on the ice in front of the crease. But after the play was reviewed, officials quickly determined that Peterson kicked the puck into the net, nullifying the tally.

For the sixth straight game, the Stars’ top line scored the game’s first goal, this time when Roope Hintz finished from the slot off a won faceoff. After the line scored in the opening 75 seconds for four straight games, the first goal on Monday came 13:48 into the game.

Arizona tied the game 3:09 into the second period, when Shayne Gostisbehere dangled around Jason Robertson and beat Braden Holtby.

Monday was a sleepy night at the American Airlines Center, as both teams struggled to reach 20 shots until the last half of the third period. Arizona entered as the league’s worst team, a side that lost its previous two games by a combined 12-3 score.

“They’re far more competitive than their record,” Stars coach Rick Bowness said Monday morning. “If you look at their record and base it on that, you’re going to be in trouble. This team works really hard, they move the puck really well, they generate offense and they’ll be tough tonight.”

— There were three different recognitions on Monday night.

Joe Pavelski was given a crystal plaque for scoring his 400th NHL goal. Former Stars forward Loui Eriksson played his 1,000th NHL game Monday and was honored during the first TV timeout of the first period. Former Stars forward Antoine Roussel had a tribute video during the second TV timeout of the night since Monday was his first game in Dallas since he left in 2018.
