James Maddison labels Premier League survival for Tottenham ‘non-negotiable’ ahead of nervy final day

  • Tottenham Hotspur failed to secure their Premier League safety on Tuesday after suffering a 2-1 defeat against London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
  • The loss means Tottenham's fight for top-flight survival will now go down to the final match of the season against Everton on Sunday, where a win or a draw will guarantee their safety.
  • Midfielder James Maddison, who made his second appearance since returning from a serious knee injury, described the club's current position as “unacceptable and a little bit embarrassing”, stressing that survival is “non-negotiable”.
  • During the Chelsea match, Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos scored for the home side, with Richarlison pulling one back for Tottenham, while Spurs were denied a late penalty.
  • Maddison also addressed his fitness, stating he is not yet at his “fluid and fluent best” after his anterior cruciate ligament rupture but is committed to helping the team in the crucial upcoming fixture against Everton.
